I hope everyone is surviving the madness of term 2! Here are some updates about what's coming up this week.
- In maths we're looking at measurement of volume, capacity and weight. It would be good practice for your child to help with cooking or any other tasks that require measuring, especially recipes that have teaspoons and tablespoons or millilitres in them as measures.
- If you have metric measuring spoons or cups that you could send along to school they would be appreciated as it's not always easy to locate enough for a class set. Please name them if you want them back!
- Could you also please get you child to bring a clear glass or plastic container about the size of a normal drinking glass. The more unusual the shape the better, these will be used for making rainbow jelly in (as part of maths). Again, please name it. This could come along to school around mid-week.
- Writing this week will be slightly experimental in that the students will be using an app called VideoNote to take notes while watching a Youtube video about how to make bread. They'll use these notes to create a recipe which we'll use to bake loves bread (or possibly solid brick-like structures). This ties in with our maths focus for the week. Feel free to do some bread/scone making with your child as practice.
- Please remember to send a note along or email me if your child isn't able to participate in the 4J's run. As the weather gets colder I find more students try to opt out. This is fine if they are actually unable to run (I certainly don't want students to get sick or injure themselves) but I don't want students to opt out just because they don't feel like it on the morning.
- Next week we're running a Room 6 Chess Tournament. If you can play chess, it would be great to help your child brush up on their skills. Four move checkmate is always a classic.
Rock On,
Mr M
Thanks Thomas - sounds like a great week ahead!! If you need any help with anything just give me a shout!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat way to get children to understand volume (yummy too). Thanks Donna
