Welcome to Week 9 - the penultimate week

Kia Ora All,

Over the last 3 weeks we've been working on getting our blogs into shape. If you haven't checked out your child's blog and left a comment then I'd suggest you do so. The students are all in slightly different places in terms of how many DLOs they've posted, but we're working towards populating their blogs with content.

Thanks to those who sent along measuring utensils for the rainbow jelly maths exercise. Please remind your child to pick them up and take them home if they haven't brought them back yet as we've finished the unit. This was a much enjoyed measurement exercise and perfect for home learning if you're looking for a practical maths application. You could perhaps try planning the measurements and number of packets you'd need to make several jellies and then making the jellies for a family pudding or party.

The next maths unit that we're starting this week is around maps: drawing scale maps, interpreting scale maps, using compasses etc. Any map related home learning that you can think of will expand their learning experience over the next two weeks. Perhaps they could plot their route to school using google maps or get outside with a compass at look at which direction certain landmarks are from your house.

Also, if you have a magnifying glass that isn't precious, it would be useful this week too.

Hopefully everyone has booked a time for parent teacher conferences. If not, please contact Tania ASAP.

Rock On,

Mr M
